Building Regional Connectors and Networks for GrowthThis report, in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, uses the Philadelphia Connectors Project as a backdrop to examine an emerging typology and questions leaders face when building and connecting individuals from different sectors to grow regions.
This report explores what regions are doing to grow their economies, where the leadership is coming from for those efforts, and how workforce issues are being addressed as part of that process. This report outlines an emerging model for regional collaboration, which, in sum, provides a structure to support collective action, allows each organization to take initiative within its own sphere of influence, and stays on course by tracking collective results. One important element is to invest in development and expansion of the ranks of regional leaders.
This report makes the case that creating healthy, sustainable urban communities, cities and the surrounding metropolitan areas requires comprehensive strategies that focus simultaneously on developing a green economy, improving our built environment, protecting our natural environments, and addressing the macrosocial factors that have an impact on population health. Such comprehensive strategies will also require collaboration and coordination betw¬¬een the public and private sectors and focus on promoting environmental justice, addressing poverty and inequality, reducing health inequities, and creating economic opportunities for low-income and vulnerable communities.
This report, commissioned by Complete College America, argues that to significantly boost America’s postsecondary graduation rate, we must reinvent higher education to meet the needs of the new majority of students who must balance the jobs they need with the education they desire, and that certificates are an important part of the solution. The report outlines several recommendations for maximizing the potential certificates hold for individuals and the economy.
Applying New Models in Postsecondary Education
This report summarizes leading trends and programs in new educational strategies to increase educational attainment among working adults and younger, non-traditional populations. The report includes results of a national scan of ‘purpose built programs’ serving working adults and younger, non-traditional populations and the results of a convening in the Spring of 2009 of about 100 practitioners in this field, policymakers, and thought partners interested in ways to increase postsecondary attainment.
